Interview Excerpt
SG asked, What initially sparked your interest in project coordination? Did you know you wanted to do this?
"I started working at SG as a part-time employee, helping a family member with some of his tasks while I was studying Radiation Therapy in college. I didn’t know that project coordination was what I wanted to do until I began learning the ropes. I found myself drawn to the role and fell in love with the work, company and culture."
Are you ever afraid of letting the team down? What’s one thing you do to ensure you don’t?
"I used to be afraid of letting the team down, especially as I was still learning. However, I’ve worked on changing my mindset and building confidence. I ensure I don’t let the team down by staying focused, following procedures diligently, and remembering that there’s always a solution. I’ve been reminded of this by family and friends consistently over the years."
Give us a short story about a time you solved a problem creatively at SG.
"Techs often had questions about the prints we provide, which could lead to confusion during installations. I really wanted to cut down noise in the beginning of a project. So, to address this, I began incorporating as much information as possible into the prints, considering their questions and needs. This proactive approach has significantly improved clarity and efficiency. Each project keeps enhancing the job prints, and we get better and better at anticipating what’s needed."
How do you stay motivated on longer or difficult projects?
"Learning new things keeps me motivated, and I view difficult projects as opportunities for growth and learning. Learning new tricks keeps me fired up and ready for whatever curveballs come my way."
How do you feel about the leadership and tools at SG?
"The tools have undergone a serious revamp within the last year or so. The tools are top-notch, and the leadership team…they’ve got our backs, no questions asked. I feel comfortable using the tools provided, and I appreciate the support and guidance from our team."
"I couldn't be more thrilled to see Camila, a stellar project coordinator, being recognized for her outstanding contributions to our company. Her dedication, attention to detail, and ability to drive projects have been invaluable to our team. It's a testament to her hard work and commitment, and I have no doubt that she will continue to shine here at SG."
- Chris Harper, Director of Operations of SG Network Services
What are you most proud of that you’ve accomplished here?
"I’m proud of finding a job that I genuinely enjoy. Waking up in the morning and knowing I’ll enjoy the workday is a win! While I haven’t yet achieved my goal of becoming a project manager, I’m dedicated to working towards it and know that with perseverance, I’ll get there."
How do you handle pressure with deadlines, demands, or issues during your day?
"Pressure? Bring it on! I thrive on a tightrope walk between deadlines and demands. Organization is my secret sauce - schedules, lists, reminders, you name it. Keep calm and schedule on, that's my mantra.”
What advice would you give aspiring coordinators?
"Obtaining a CAPM certification has been invaluable to me. It provided a solid foundation in project management and clarified my role as a coordinator. I’d encourage aspiring coordinators to pursue similar certifications to enhance their skills and knowledge."
How do you handle work-life balance?
"Thanks to our 7-3 schedule at SG, I find it relatively easy to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Effective time management ensures I have ample time for personal pursuits outside of work. Of course, that depends on my time management, if I don’t get things done between those hours I would have to stay longer or work from home."
